About this approach
Under the Swedish Education Act (chapter 24, section 2), an international school is one that follows another country's curriculum or an international curriculum and mainly serves pupils living in Sweden for a limited time. Which schools these are is not in the data Skolkoll has. This page instead gathers upper-secondary schools offering the IB programme (International Baccalaureate) and units with an international or English name – among them Internationella Engelska Skolan, which follows the Swedish curriculum. Schools with a foreign curriculum but another name are missing.
How Skolkoll finds the units
IB is read from Skolverket's upper-secondary programme codes. Other units count when the unit's name at Skolverket (the school unit register or, for preschools, the preschool statistics) contains International, Internationell, Intern., English School, Engelska skolan or British. The name says nothing about curriculum or language of instruction – ask the school about that.
Where they are
What the data can and cannot tell
These groups are not comparable with other schools: the IB programme admits students by grades, and schools with an international name share no common pedagogy. Compare individual schools.
