Versioning policy
Check how current data is versioned, archived, cited and changed over time.
Quick check
Which data version you cite, how archives are named and how schema changes are announced.
The site shows the latest collected version; older versions are archived but not guaranteed.
Skolkoll compilations are CC BY 4.0; source data follows each provider's licence.
Date-based versioning
Skolkoll collects data from multiple open data sources with known update frequencies (see data sources). Each time a data source is updated the previous version is archived with a timestamp. The data shown on the site is always the latest collected version.
- Skolverket's school unit register is synced daily.
- The statistics database (PxWeb) is synced on the 1st and 15th of each month.
- SCB and Kolada are synced monthly.
Archival
Older versions are retained and pruned automatically. There is no guarantee that all historical versions of a dataset remain available. Archived versions are named with timestamps (e.g.data/archive/v-2026-03-01T12-00-00-000Z/).
Citing data
Data and analyses from Skolkoll may be freely cited with attribution. Suggested format:
Skolkoll, "Merit value year 9", retrieved 2026-07-05
URL: https://skolkoll.se/en/statistics/merit-grundskola/
Source: Skolverket Statistics Database (SIRIS)Always include the retrieval date so the reader knows which data version you are referring to. See also thecitation guide.
Schema changes
- New fields are added without removing existing ones (additive schema).
- Fields to be removed are marked
deprecatedfor at least one version before removal. - All schema changes are documented in the changelog.
Licence
- Skolkoll compilations: CC BY 4.0
- Source data: Each data source's own licence — Skolverket, SCB, Kolada etc. publish open data under their own terms.
