How the national average is calculated

For school-level values (3-year graduation, grade points, teacher density, certified teachers) we take the unweighted mean across all active upper-secondary schools with data for the school year. Compulsory schools and preschools are excluded.

For Kolada values (direct transition to higher ed) we take the unweighted mean across Sweden's municipalities with data — every municipality contributes one value regardless of size.

Detailed formulas are in the method policy. The full dataset is available under CC BY 4.0 at /en/download/schools/.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as graduation within 3 years?

The share of pupils who have obtained an upper-secondary diploma within 3 years from programme start, regardless of programme. Skolverket reports separate figures for higher-ed-preparatory and vocational programmes — Skolkoll shows the combined mean across all programmes.

What is grade points?

A 0-20 scale where A=20, B=17.5, C=15, D=12.5, E=10, F=0. Average grade points are computed from a pupil's final grades across the upper-secondary curriculum, weighted by course volume.

Does higher-ed eligibility differ between programmes?

Yes. Higher-ed-preparatory programmes automatically grant basic higher-ed eligibility on graduation. Vocational programmes require pupils to take eligibility-granting courses as electives. Skolkoll shows the combined average — use the Kolada link for the per-programme breakdown.

Unweighted or weighted mean?

School-level values (graduation, grade points, teacher density) use an unweighted school-level mean. Kolada values (direct transition to higher ed) use an unweighted municipal mean. Both differ from Skolverket's often pupil-weighted national figure but better reflect the average school/municipality.
