Special support (särskilt stöd) refers to more substantial interventions for students who are at risk of not meeting the knowledge requirements. Unlike additional adjustments, special support requires a formal investigation and an action programme (åtgärdsprogram).
Examples of special support
- One-to-one instruction
- Placement in a special teaching group
- Adapted study plan (reduced number of subjects)
- Study guidance in the student's mother tongue
Right to support
All students have the right to special support if they need it. It is the principal's (rektor's) responsibility to investigate the need and decide on measures. The decision can be appealed to the School Appeals Board (Skolväsendets överklagandenämnd).
