Higher education eligibility (Högskolebehörighet)

Eligibility to apply to universities and university colleges. Requires an upper-secondary diploma and specific subject grades.

Higher education eligibility (högskolebehörighet) means that a person meets the requirements to apply to higher education. There is basic eligibility (an upper-secondary diploma with passing grades in Swedish, English, and mathematics) and specific eligibility (requirements for specific subject grades depending on the programme).

Basic eligibility

Since 2023, both vocational diplomas and higher-education preparatory diplomas grant basic higher education eligibility. Adults who lack an upper-secondary diploma can achieve eligibility through municipal adult education (komvux) or folk high school.
