About Sami schools

The Sami school is a six-year school type corresponding to compulsory school years 1–6. Education follows the regular curriculum but is supplemented with instruction in the Sami language as well as Sami culture, history and society. After Sami school, students transfer to regular compulsory school year 7.

The Sami School Board (Sameskolstyrelsen) is the government agency responsible for Sami schools. Its mission is to provide Sami children with education featuring a Sami profile and to promote the Sami language. Learn more at sameskolstyrelsen.se.
