Yrkesvux refers to vocational training programmes within municipal adult education (komvux) that are funded by extra government grants. The programmes target occupations with labour shortages, such as assistant nurses, childcare workers, chefs, welders, and truck drivers.
Government funding
The state provides municipalities with additional funding to run vocational training through yrkesvux. The funds are earmarked for training places that lead to employment. Municipalities often collaborate regionally to offer a broad range of yrkesvux programmes.
Scope
Yrkesvux is one of the largest investments in adult education in Sweden, with tens of thousands of places each year. The programmes often combine theory with workplace-based learning (APL) and lead to a vocational qualification.
