A parent-teacher conference (utvecklingssamtal) is a mandatory meeting that must take place at least once per term. The meeting involves the teacher, pupil, and parent/guardian. The purpose is to provide an all-round picture of the pupil's academic progress and social situation at school.

The meeting should be forward-looking and based on the pupil's strengths and areas for development. The teacher should inform about the pupil's knowledge level in relation to the grading criteria. In year levels without grades, the meeting should result in a written individual development plan.
