Subject timetable (Timplan)

The guaranteed teaching hours per subject in compulsory school, set by the government.

The subject timetable (timplan) specifies the minimum number of teaching hours per subject that every pupil is entitled to during compulsory school. The total guaranteed teaching time in compulsory school is 6,890 hours (of 60 minutes each).

Distribution

The subjects with the most hours are Swedish (1,460 h), mathematics (1,125 h), and physical education and health (600 h). The subject timetable is set by the government and can be changed by ordinance. Schools with experimental programmes may have an adapted timetable.
