Classroom order (studiero) means having a calm and orderly environment in the classroom that enables pupils to concentrate on the teaching. Classroom order is often highlighted as a key issue in the Swedish education debate.
Challenges
International studies (PISA, TALIS) show that Swedish pupils report more disruptions in the classroom than pupils in many comparable countries. Causes may include large classes, unclear expectations, and a lack of consequences for disruptive behaviour.
Measures
The Education Act gives teachers and principals the right to take disciplinary measures to maintain classroom order, such as verbal warnings, removal from the classroom, and relocation.
