Language choice (Språkval)

The choice of a third language (French, Spanish, German, etc.) from year 6. Gives a 17th grade in the merit score.

Language choice (språkval) means that pupils in compulsory school choose a modern language (typically French, Spanish, or German) from year 6. The language choice gives a 17th subject that is included in the merit score, raising the maximum from 320 to 340 points.

Alternatives

Pupils who do not want to study a modern language can instead choose additional instruction in Swedish/Swedish as a second language, English, or mother tongue tuition. These alternatives do not, however, provide a 17th grade in the merit score. Approximately 85% of pupils choose a modern language.
