Language introduction (Språkintroduktion)

An introductory programme at upper-secondary level for newly arrived students who need to learn Swedish.

Language introduction (språkintroduktion) is one of the five introductory programmes at upper-secondary level. It is aimed at newly arrived young people who do not have sufficient knowledge of Swedish to follow instruction in a national programme.

Content

Teaching focuses on the Swedish language but also includes other subjects based on the student's needs and goals. Each student follows an individual study plan. The goal is for the student to achieve eligibility for a national upper-secondary programme.

Target group

The programme is open to young people who arrived in Sweden at a later age and did not have time to learn Swedish during compulsory school. The number of students in language introduction increased sharply following the refugee wave of 2015–2016.
