Compulsory education monitoring (Skolpliktsbevakning)

The municipality's responsibility to ensure all school-age children fulfil their compulsory education. Includes absence follow-up.

Skolpliktsbevakning (compulsory education monitoring) means that the municipality actively checks that all children of compulsory school age (6–16 years) are enrolled in and attending education. The municipality must have procedures to identify children who are not fulfilling their compulsory education.

Measures

If a child is not attending school, the municipality must investigate the reason and take action. As a last resort, the municipality can impose a fine on the guardians. The municipality must also collaborate with social services if a child's absence may indicate other problems.
