Skolinspektionen (the Swedish Schools Inspectorate) is the authority responsible for supervision and quality review of Swedish schools. The agency was established in 2008 and is organisationally separate from Skolverket.
Mission
Skolinspektionen reviews whether schools comply with the Education Act, curricula, and other regulations. The agency conducts regular inspections of all schools, targeted reviews of specific quality aspects, and investigates complaints filed by students and parents.
Sanctions
Skolinspektionen can issue injunctions (with or without fines), revoke approvals for independent schools, and in serious cases shut down operations. The agency also reviews applications from individuals wishing to start new independent schools.
