Collaboration between school and the world of work (samverkan skola–arbetsliv) is a mission set out in the curriculum. All students should have contact with working life during their schooling to facilitate future study and career choices.

Forms

Prao — work experience in compulsory school (mandatory since 2018)
Study visits — to companies and workplaces
APL — workplace-based learning on vocational programmes
Industry councils — collaboration between upper secondary schools and local businesses

Upper secondary school (Gymnasieskola) Voluntary three-year education after compulsory school with 18 national programmes — vocational or academic. APL — Workplace-based learning Internship periods on vocational programmes where the pupil learns at a real workplace. At least 15 weeks during upper secondary. Study and career counsellor (SYV) School staff who guide students in their choice of education and career. Must be available at every school.
