The principal (rektor) is the school unit's pedagogical leader and bears overall responsibility for the quality of instruction. The principal leads and coordinates pedagogical work, makes decisions about the organisation, and is responsible for systematic quality assurance.
Authority
Under the Education Act, the principal has a number of decision-making powers: decisions on special support and action programmes, disciplinary measures, organising instruction, and allocating resources within the school unit. The principal must have completed the national principal training programme (rektorsprogrammet).
