Legally sound assessment (Rättssäker bedömning)

The principle that grading must be transparent, consistent, and possible to explain and justify.

Rättssäker bedömning (legally sound assessment) means that grading must be transparent, consistent, and possible to justify based on the syllabus grading criteria. The student and guardians should be able to understand why a particular grade was awarded.

Requirements

The teacher must document the student's knowledge continuously, use a broad assessment basis (not just tests), and communicate the grounds for assessment to the student. Grades cannot be formally appealed, but the Schools Inspectorate can review whether grading was conducted correctly.
