Syllabus (Kursplan)

Part of the curriculum that describes the purpose, core content, and grading criteria for an individual subject.

A syllabus (kursplan) is the part of the curriculum that describes an individual subject. The syllabus has three components: purpose (why the subject is taught), core content (what is to be taught), and grading criteria (what is required for each grade).

Structure

The purpose describes the abilities the subject is intended to develop. The core content specifies the knowledge areas that instruction should cover. The grading criteria (formerly knowledge requirements) describe what the student must demonstrate for grades A, C, and E.

Revision

Syllabi are revised at regular intervals. The most recent major revision took place in 2022 (Lgr22) and included a sharpened focus on factual knowledge and clearer progression between year groups.
