Konfessionella skolor (faith-based schools) are independent schools with a religious orientation. They may be Christian, Muslim, Jewish, or of other faiths. These schools have been intensely debated in Swedish education policy.
Regulations
All teaching in Swedish schools must be non-confessional — that is, free from religious influence. However, confessional elements (prayer, worship) are permitted in other activities outside of teaching, provided that participation is voluntary. The Swedish Schools Inspectorate (Skolinspektionen) monitors that the boundary between teaching and other activities is maintained.
