Sustainable development in the curriculum

A cross-curricular perspective in the curriculum that should permeate all teaching. Covers ecological, social, and economic aspects.

Sustainable development (hållbar utveckling) is one of four perspectives that according to the curriculum should permeate all teaching in compulsory school. It encompasses ecological, social, and economic aspects of sustainability.

In practice

Sustainable development should be integrated into all subjects — from natural science (climate, ecosystems) to social studies (global justice, democracy) and home and consumer studies (consumption, resource management). The National Agency for Education provides support materials for teaching about sustainable development.
