Guaranteed teaching time (Garanterad undervisningstid)

The minimum teaching time every pupil is entitled to according to the subject timetable. Often discussed in relation to cancelled lessons.

Guaranteed teaching time (garanterad undervisningstid) is the minimum amount of instruction every pupil is entitled to during compulsory school — 6,890 hours in total, distributed per subject according to the subject timetable.

Problems

Reviews by the Schools Inspectorate show that many schools fail to deliver the guaranteed teaching time. Causes include cancelled lessons due to teacher shortages, staff development days, excursions, and theme days that do not count as instruction.
