Continuing professional development for teachers

Professional development for practising teachers. Can occur through courses, collaborative learning, or national programmes.

Continuing professional development (fortbildning) for teachers takes many forms: national programmes from the National Agency for Education (such as Läslyftet and Matematiklyftet), collaborative professional learning, university courses, conferences, and internal development work.

Responsibility

The school provider is responsible for offering teachers professional development. In TALIS surveys, Swedish teachers report receiving more professional development than the OECD average, but note that the need for subject-specific development is often not fully met.
