Formative assessment (formativ bedömning, or assessment for learning) means that the teacher continuously evaluates the student's knowledge and provides feedback that helps the student develop further. The purpose is not to sort or grade but to identify where the student is and what the next step should be.
Methods
Common methods include oral and written feedback, self-assessment, peer assessment, exit tickets, and diagnostic tests. Research shows that effective formative assessment can have a significant positive effect on student learning.
