A preparatory class (förberedelseklass) is a teaching group in compulsory school for newly arrived pupils who need intensive Swedish language instruction before they can fully participate in a regular class.
Organisation
The pupil is temporarily placed in a preparatory class to quickly learn the basics of Swedish. The placement should be time-limited and the pupil should gradually be integrated into a regular class. There are no national rules for how long a pupil may attend a preparatory class — this is decided locally.
