Folk high school (Folkhögskola)

An educational institution offering courses at compulsory and upper secondary level as well as specialised courses. Often provides higher education eligibility.

Folk high schools (folkhögskolor) offer education outside the formal school system. They are found across Sweden and offer, among other things, a general course (which provides basic and/or specific higher education eligibility) and specialised courses in areas such as music, art, journalism, or health.

Assessment

Folk high schools do not give grades but provide narrative assessments. For admission to higher education, the folk high school's assessment and a rated study assessment level are used in the selection process. Folk high school is an important alternative for people who need a different path to higher education eligibility.
