Student health services (elevhälsa) is the collective function within the school that works with students' health, development, and learning. According to the Education Act, every school must have access to student health services with medical, psychological, psychosocial, and special-educational expertise.
The student health team
- School nurse (skolsköterska) — health check-ups, vaccinations, medical advice
- School doctor (skolläkare) — medical assessments
- School counsellor (skolkurator) — social support, counselling, crisis intervention
- School psychologist (skolpsykolog) — assessments, guidance, crisis intervention
- Special-needs educator / special teacher — educational assessments and support
Preventive mission
Student health services should be primarily preventive and health-promoting, not merely reactive. This means identifying risks early and working with the entire school environment, not just individual students.
