Digitalisation in schools

The use of digital tools and learning materials in teaching. A question of both opportunities and risks.

Digitalisation in schools involves integrating digital tools, learning materials, and working methods into teaching. Sweden invested heavily in one-to-one solutions (one computer/tablet per pupil) during the 2010s.

Debate

The debate on digitalisation has shifted. Early focus was on opportunities (accessibility, individualisation, digital skills). Later, risks have been highlighted: screen fatigue, concentration difficulties, and insufficient evidence of pedagogical benefit. Since 2023, the National Agency for Education has revised its digitalisation strategy with a more balanced focus.
