External grading (Central rättning)

A pilot programme where national tests are graded by an external teacher rather than the pupil's own teacher.

External grading (central rättning) means that national tests are graded by a teacher who does not teach the pupil in question. Since 2018, a pilot programme with external grading has been running in selected subjects.

Purpose

The purpose is to increase equity in assessment. Research shows that teachers who know the pupil tend to grade more generously. External grading eliminates this bias and provides more accurate results. The goal is to gradually introduce external grading in more subjects.
