Grading scale A–F (Betygsskalan)

The six-level grading scale used in compulsory and upper secondary school. A is the highest grade, F means not passed.

Sweden uses a six-level grading scale introduced in 2011: A, B, C, D, E and F. Grades A–E are passing, while F means the student has not met the knowledge requirements. A dash (–) is given if there is no basis for assessment at all.

Point values

When calculating merit value, each grade is assigned a point value: A = 20, B = 17.5, C = 15, D = 12.5, E = 10, F = 0. These points are summed for the 16 (or 17) best subjects.
