Grading authority (Betygsrätt)

The right to award grades. Since 2015, a teaching licence and subject qualification are required to independently award grades.

Betygsrätt (grading authority) refers to the right to independently award grades. Since 2015, a teaching licence (lärarlegitimation) and qualification in the relevant subject are required.

Unqualified teachers

Teachers without a licence or without qualification in the subject may teach but lack grading authority. The grade must then be awarded in consultation with a licensed and qualified teacher who co-signs the decision. This rule is designed to ensure legal certainty in the grading process.
