Grade points (Swedish: betygspoäng) are the numerical values assigned to each grade level on the A–F scale when calculating merit value. The system makes it possible to sum grades from different subjects into a comparable total score.
Point values
A = 20, B = 17.5, C = 15, D = 12.5, E = 10, F = 0. A student with grade C in all 16 subjects receives a merit value of 240 points (16 × 15). The maximum is 320 points without a modern language, or 340 with a 17th subject.
History
The point system was introduced together with the new grading scale in 2011 and replaced the older MVG/VG/G/IG system. The new system provides more grade levels and therefore a finer gradation of student performance.
