APL — Workplace-based learning

Internship periods on vocational programmes where the pupil learns at a real workplace. At least 15 weeks during upper secondary.

APL (Arbetsplatsförlagt lärande, workplace-based learning) refers to the periods on vocational programmes where the pupil learns at a workplace rather than in school. APL is a mandatory part of all vocational programmes and comprises at least 15 weeks during upper secondary school.

Purpose

APL gives the pupil practical professional experience and contacts with the world of work. Supervisors at the workplace and teachers from the school cooperate around the pupil's learning. Good quality APL is crucial for the quality of vocational education and pupils' employment after graduation.
