Municipality profile

Choose municipalities and compare profiles in 5 dimensions.

Every municipality has a unique 'fingerprint' profile. Choose two municipalities you think are similar and see how their polygons differ. Perhaps they have the same merit value but entirely different teacher certification. Perhaps the same independent school share but different numbers of schools. Numbers do not lie — but a single number never tells the whole truth.

Municipality profile — compare municipalities in five dimensions

Comparing municipalities with a single number gives an incomplete picture. The municipality profile instead shows five dimensions simultaneously in a radar chart: merit value, teacher certification, pupil density, number of schools and share of independent schools.

Choose two municipalities and see how their 'fingerprints' differ. Municipalities that appear similar in one dimension can have entirely different profiles overall. Danderyd and Lidingo have similar merit values but different teacher certification. Malmo and Gothenburg are comparable in size but differ in independent school share.

The radar chart makes it possible to identify municipalities' relative strengths and weaknesses. A municipality with high teacher certification but mediocre merit value may have other challenges — perhaps socioeconomic — that certification alone cannot solve.

The tool is useful for parents comparing municipalities, for politicians who want to understand their municipality's position, and for researchers studying differences in the Swedish school system.
