Every school on the map

Each school a circle — size shows pupil count, colour shows merit value.

Here you can see every individual school at its geographic location. The large circles in the major cities are easy to spot — but zoom into Norrland and you will find small schools that shine with high merit values. Geography is not destiny — there is quality everywhere.

Every school in Sweden on one map

This map shows every active school unit in Sweden as a circle at its geographic position. The size reflects the number of pupils and the colour shows the merit value in year 9.

In the metropolitan regions the circles merge into a dense cluster. Zoom in and you will see how schools with vastly different results can be just a few hundred metres apart — a reminder that the neighbourhood often determines which school the children attend.

In Norrland and the interior, a different reality is visible: individual small schools scattered with great distances between them. Despite their small size, many of these schools show good results. The small school with 50 pupils in Jamtland can have a merit value just as high as the large inner-city school.

The map also reveals where the 'school deserts' are — the areas where the nearest school can be many miles away. For these families, school choice is not about quality but about logistics.
