Which schools should you watch?

Schools rarely deteriorate overnight. It often starts with small signals: the merit value drops a few points, pupils become fewer, the share of certified teachers declines.

The analysis checks five warning signals (same criteria as each school page):

• Low teacher certification — more than one standard deviation below the national average
• High student-teacher ratio — more than one standard deviation above the national average
• SALSA underperformance — merit value at least 15 points below expected
• Negative trends — declining merit score or vocational eligibility over time
• Active injunctions — the Schools Inspectorate has issued injunctions against the school
